Adults can be defined as animals or human beings that have reached their full development. If used in conjunction with human beings, the term "adult" may mean something associated with legal or social ideas. A legal adult, in contrast to "minors" (also known as non-adults) are those who are older than the average age and consequently considered responsible, independent and self-sufficient. It is also possible to view them as an "major". The age of 18 is the standard legally-adulted age at which you can become an adult but this could vary based on the country of origin and the status of the law in addition to the maturity of the mind.

If a person attains full physical and intellectual maturity, it is referred to as adulthood. Adulthood, as commonly understood, starts around the age of 20 or 21. Following middle age (starting at around 40) then comes the age of old age (around age 60). Adulthood can be divided into three phases that are: early adulthood (18-mid-30s) between mid-30s and the mid-60s and the final stage of adulthood, mid-60s to the time of death. When we reach early adulthood the body is at the fullest physical maturation. Yet, our height and our weight can grow. As we grow older, we are at the peak of our physical ability.
